Flare, a Mobility Tech Company, Conducts Proof-of-Concept Experiment with Mahidol University in Thailand to Improve Student Road Safety

Aiming to raise students’ road safety awareness and reduce traffic accidents using Flare Analytics

March 4, 2025 — Flare Inc. (Head office: Tokyo; Representative Director: Kazuki Kamiya; hereinafter “Flare”) has jointly conducted a “Proof-of-Concept (PoC) Experiment to Improve and Promote Safe Driving Among Students Commuting by Car and Motorcycle” with Mahidol University in Thailand.

Background

Thailand has one of the highest road traffic fatality rates in Asia, with accidents involving motorcycles and other two-wheeled vehicles constituting a serious social problem. Many young people use cars or motorcycles to commute to school or work, and improving road safety awareness and reducing traffic accidents are urgent challenges.

In this proof-of-concept experiment, Flare’s Flare Analytics application is used to visualize students’ driving behavior via smartphone. This enables collection and analysis of data on driving conduct during commutes, with the aim of improving road safety.

Overview of the Proof-of-Concept Experiment

  • Duration: 2 weeks
  • Participants: 12 Mahidol University students
  • Tools used: Flare Analytics application
  • Data collected: Driving dynamics information including number of sudden accelerations, number of sudden brakings, and speeding incidents

Purpose of the Proof-of-Concept Experiment

Through this proof-of-concept experiment, we will analyze students’ driving tendencies and clarify safety challenges. Furthermore, based on the visualized data, we will provide educational programs addressing high-risk driving behaviors and hazardous locations to promote improved road safety awareness among students.

Flare aims to promote safety measures leveraging technology and contribute to addressing Thailand’s traffic accident problem. We will continue our efforts toward improving safety in the mobility environment.
